We are often asked why we do what we do and how we can work the hours we work. Well today, everyone gets the answer. The maritime towing industry, and towboat work in general, is not for the faint of heart. We do work long hours and spend nights away from our family and friends. There are times we miss events, holidays and family functions. While all of this may be difficult at times, the love our team has for working in inland towing is like no other. We’ve broken down our top five favorite things that make working in maritime towing worth every second.
5. Wildlife: Not only do we get to see the alligators, black bears and pelicans native to Louisiana on a daily basis, but we also get to see wildlife across America. Bald Eagles, otters and wolves happen to be a few of our favorites.
4. The View: While our schedules may not fit the typical 9-5 workday, we couldn’t ask for a better office view. We get to see sunrises and sunsets from all corners of this great nation. Each one offers a change in scenery, an array of colors, and majestic skies. We also don’t see the same thing in any one-day. We’re always moving. This means our office view changes day to day. How can you beat that?
3. Love for the Water: Once you spend some time on the Mississippi River, and any body of water as far as we’re concerned, you develop a love for the water and the outdoors like no other. It hooks you in a way that is powerful and indescribable.
2. A Part of History: We just plain love what we do and that is all there is to it. Working for Mr. Cenac and the Cenac family means we are a part of Houma’s history. Mr. Benny Cenac’s family started Cenac Towing nearly 9 decades ago. We are honored to be a part of such tradition dating back to the 1920s.
1. Family: We aren’t just a team here at Cenac. We’re a family, and you just can’t beat working with such a wonderful group of people.
