It’s no secret that the oil industry has been in a slump for the last three years. Our industry and our economy have both been hit hard by this downturn. It has impacted thousands with a countless amount of jobs lost. Houma Today recently published an article that shines some light at the end of this very long tunnel. This got us thinking about the future outlook of our industry, so we sat down with our fearless leader, Mr. Arlen B. Cenac, and asked him a few questions to find out what he thought about it.
In your opinion, what does this influx in spending after such a long downturn in the industry?
Well, I believe that this increase in spending is a small, but important, indicator that we may have reached the bottom of this slowdown. The 2017 budgets should reflect improved confidence and we should slowly start to see an increase in investment dollars.
Do you see any potential impact on the maritime towing industry in correlation with the projected influx in spending?
I think the impact can only be positive, and Cenac Towing is uniquely positioned with the youngest, most modern fleet in the business. We’ll be ready when the time comes.
What’s your projection on oil and gas/maritime industry jobs for 2017?
I think the growth will be slow and steady this coming year. The regulatory environment is stimulating confidence in the energy sector again. I see only positive things happening in 2017 and I’m looking forward to it.
Mr. Cenac’s overall opinion about the coming months of 2017 are positive and we must say, it’s also the overall consensus amongst all of us at Cenac Towing. To read the full article and learn more about how the industry is increasing its spending, visit Houma Today.
