If you missed it last month, Arlen “Benny” Cenac had the pleasure of being interviewed by Mathew V. Veazey at Downstream Today. Mr. Cenac and Mr. Veazey discussed the importance of wheelhouse jobs in the maritime industry and the low pool in which to choose from as of late.
Despite the downturn in the Louisiana economy, Cenac Marine Services continues to grow. Due to such growth, we are usually looking for additional personnel to add to our ever-growing team. That being said, we typically find it challenging to fill positions for wheelhouse personnel. These jobs normally include boat captain, relief captain, wheelman/pilot and steersman/mate.
While these positions may prove to be challenging and difficult to some, they can also be extremely exciting and fulfilling. Someone starting out in this field will usually begin as a steersman/mate. However, with hard work and dedication there is always room for advancement into other positions that can eventually lead to captain. Another plus to positions such as these are the financial rewards attached to them. Some can become top earners in the country.
If you or someone you know may be interested in such wheelhouse positions, please visit our employment page to submit your resume and application.
